Year end party at the Singapore Mission

One good thing about being e-registered as an overseas Singaporean is that you get invitations to parties at the Singapore Mission (I guess the ?equivalent of an embassy). Today there was a year end party, and I went by myself because SJ has got exams to study for.

There was chili crab sauce with crab bits and man tou, orh luah, sambal kang kong, chai tow kuay, beef rendang, spring rolls, chwee kueh, sweet and sour fish, white and roasted chicken, fried beehoon. fried rice, satay and lots of sambal chilli :D I must say whilst I applaud the nice gesture and good effort, food away from home is never the same. The chili crab sauce wasn't spicy, the mantou was hard-ish, orh luah wasn't doughy enough, beef rendang was definitely overcooked, and chwee kueh cai po was just bland. But this is it, the Singaporean response, always complaining ha! Nonetheless, thanks to the Overseas Singaporean Unit! I still appreciate free food very much. :D

SG50

It's totally not the 9th of August yet where I am but the SG50 fever has definitely hit. Was sure to pack my flag from the National Day pack earlier in the year (together with stick-on tattoos no less) and here we are!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SINGAPORE! #hometruly

#ProudtobeSingaporean

Had heard much about this interview before, and never had the time to sit through all 45 minutes of it. Now that I have, mindblown at our DPM! #ProudtobeSingaporean

#RememberingLKY

Fast forward many weeks and Singapore has seen the coming and going of our former Prime Minister LKY. I must say that although as a third generation Singapore I consider myself a fair-weathered LKY fan, I am a supporter nonetheless. Listening to broadcasts of his rallies and stories of how his wisdom and foresight brought this small land to where it is today, makes me realize how a life in politics can truly impact the lives of many in far more practical ways than perhaps doctoring could. Much has been said about your life and work, and you have led a truly impressive life. Rest in peace.

Warning shots

Station 4 of the PACES examination is a Communications station. One of the most common clinical scenarios is that of "Breaking Bad News", of which one of the pillars of breaking bad new is giving multiple "warning shots". It essentially is making several statements related to the anticipated undesirable situation, to forewarn the receiver of what is to come.

I apologise for the vulgar language, but this meme really encapsulates all that happened/is happening in Singapore right now. Really made me LOL.

Regardless, #ThankyouLKY.

The Singapore Love Story

"You can't explain these things ... He had tremendous aplomb, self-confidence, very jaunty, he was a handsome young man." Mrs Lee, on Mr Lee in his younger days.

...and with that, a marraige that lead to a wonderful 61 years of completing each other. Such a great blessing to be able to find the one person amongst millions in the world to share your life with. The way she makes MM Lee laugh so endearingly is truly a sight to behold. She seemed to have exemplified the biblical woman - one who always played a supporting role, always 2 steps behind her man, but yet had her own capabilities and successes to speak off. She seems like a lovely person. Watching the videos make me feel so sad, which is a bit odd since one would think that to a generation like mine, Mrs Lee would have been a character of the previous era ): Still, death is always an unnatural truncation of what was meant for eternity.

Thank you Mrs Lee, for the life that you lived.

PS: The cutest part was when she stopped the interview recording to wipe his semi-bald head with a piece of paper ((:

Madam Kwa Geok Choo, 1921 - 2010

To love, to hold and to cherish,
in sickness and in health,
for better or for worse,
till death do us part.

"One doctor told me, you may think that when she's gone you'll be relieved, but you'll be sad when she's gone. Because (now) there's still the human being here, there's still somebody you talk to and she knows what you're saying and you'll miss that. Well, I don't know, I haven't come to that, but I think I probably will because it's now been two years, two years and four months. It's become a part of my life.'"

9 August

I like my men in white (and white singlets underneath). So cute (:

This year's NDP goodie bag. No vuvuzela? Got food and the bag looks quite nice. Pass!
